DWC Partners with Electrical Distributors to Deliver Hundreds of Holiday Toys for Kids
A couple of weeks ago, I sat down at my desk for what turned out to be an amazing Friday at work. On this day, my world of specialty wire & cable took a back seat to spending the entire day serving as one of Santa’s elves. By the end of the afternoon, I had purchased almost $5,000 worth of shiny new toys in support of the Marine Toys for Tots Program – a worthy cause that has helped bring the joy of the holidays to less-fortunate children since 1947. Let’s face it, any time you can spend the better part of a workday shopping for toys, that’s a pretty awesome day!
Since Distributor Wire & Cable (DWC) was founded back in 2008, the company has taken it’s Give Back, A Lot value seriously. Throughout the year, DWC gets involved in local charities in and around our network of distribution centers throughout the U.S. Among the causes that are important to us, Toys for Tots has been a part of DWC’s giving legacy the longest.
“Back when we first started, we weren’t exactly breaking any sales records”. Explains Robert McCord, DWC Senior Manager, Procurement and Global Supply Chain. “Still, we kept talking about being a company that doesn’t shy away from a good cause. In early December of our first year, we got a sizable order from an Electrical Distributor that we’d been trying to write business for all year. We were so excited that they finally trusted us as a partner that we took all the profit from that order straight to a local toy store and started filling up shopping carts”. DWC’s annual Toys for Tots toy drive was born!
Since that first holiday season, DWC has been an every-year supporter of the Marine Toys for Tots program. During this time, DWC has donated thousands of toys to children in need. Along with direct donations from staff and employee payroll deductions, DWC involves our electrical distribution partners by donating a toy in their name for each initial myDWC fastQuote submitted during the holiday season. Each of these customers are then invited to add a personalized holiday greeting to their contributions through the myDWC customer portal.
Once again, we’ll be dropping off several hundred toys this week to help brighten holiday spirits for deserving children. Myself and my DWC colleagues had a ton of fun purchasing and collecting all these cool toys. Looking over the mountain of toys sitting in our office storage room, I could clearly picture the many smiles on kids faces that we’ll help bring this holiday season. To our customers and my fellow DWC Family members, thanks for sharing in this annual DWC holiday tradition.
