Building Wire: Copper XLP USE Building Wire

XLP USE is a cross-linked polyethylene insulated single conductor stranded or solid bare copper wire. It is similar to XHHW building wire except this product is rated for direct burial applications. This product is also referred to as RHH/RHW meaning it meets the UL standard 854 for service entrance cable.

XLP USE is rated for both 90 degrees Celsius in wet or dry environments and -40 Celsius rated. It carries a 600 volt rating and performs well against flame and sunlight. This versatile building wire can be installed in conduit, raceways, conduit and aerially.

Sizes of this product are cable tray rated when larger than 1/0. It can be found in a variety of colors in the circuit sizes (#10, #12, and #14) and mainly offered with a black jacket in 8 AWG and larger.

While XLP USE is offered with an aluminum conductor, a copper conductor is still the most popular. This product can be very cost effective for a contractor or electrician who requires the superior electrical properties of cross-linked polyethylene and needs to direct burial the product. Neither XHHW nor THHN building wire can provide this solution, and for only a slight price increase, XLP USE is the ideal solution.
